Laura Iosifescu harnesses Earth’s energy to paint a brand new landscape
London, UK, September 2013 A new generation of artists’ avant- garde began to emerge. We thought we knew everything about painting and how we could place paint on a surface but Laura Iosifescu has broken the rules of convention by utilising machines to create uncanny imaginary landscapes. Her tools have become a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction, a female reproductive monster of forms of life. Iosifescu has just completed her work on the series “The Outbreak”. She believes the mechanical reproduction of her landscapes articulate the symbiotism of the society in which we live. However mechanic our society might be, it is organic. Like Nature, culture and society’s basic raison d’etre is to grow, give life, reproduce, but simultaneously appear unchanging. Pushing the materiality of paint to the extreme speaks her desire to impact on the world, to influence and demodulate the future. Her obsession emanates from the need to use mechanical tools to create the "landscapes of society", to commune with cities and the metropolis that constantly shift and reshape the natural environment. The representation of this flux which impacts profoundly on culture, milieu and society is the central motif in my work. Anatomy and surface, beauty and ugliness, destruction and creation are intrinsic to the artist Laura Iosifescu: ‘I am interested in the celebration of energy and death, nature and cruelty, abundance; colour and fantastical landscapes.’ ‘I don’t record landscapes from a specific place, space or time, my observations lead me to offer a sense of peace and a new creative form that presents my interpretation of life through paint.’ Iosifescu says.’ Yes, nature is an inspiration but so are life’s events and our own experiences. Cruelty and misery can disfigure accepted notions of Nature’s purity or bounty.’ Her work has already been recognised by ARTSLANT, Category Mixed Media earlier this year and she has been called ‘an image poet’. Earlier exhibitions in Newcastle sold out completely. Her paintings are raw and organic but truly three dimensional. They are not simply a trace but a new alien form of life. These paintings are about the contradiction between the mechanical application of paint and the powerful sense of growth and its resultant energy that drives every process on the planet. Once the originals are experienced they can never be forgotten. You can arrange a studio visit by contacting Laura

Renowned West London based art gallery Debut Contemporary will host the second of a three part collaborative event with UK-based sustainable fashion retailer, Fashion ComPassion, that merges fashion and art in the most unique manner.
The second of the three-part event series will be held on 19th June as a one night only sales evening at the Gallery on 82 Westbourne Grove, London, W2 5RT, with an exclusive ECO-FAIR themed evening with cocktails made with FAIR. Quinoa Vodka, the 1st vodka made from Quinoa and the 1st Premium fair trade certified vodka. The brand Fashion ComPassion – Rags2Riches, SUPU, Abo London & BACA Jewellery, create pieces of art that convey a story, focusing on environmentally friendly production to show how ethics and fashion are combined to create unique high end products. These desirable pieces will be combined with Debut Artists Anja Kleemann-Jacks, David Booth and I who also delineate similar narratives, highlighting social and ethical issues in our economy and ecosystem. We celebrate sustainability, recycling and the environment in our work through painting, collage and installation. “The Eco-Fair event will bring sustainable fashion to the forefront by showcasing fashion that combines design & eco-friendly production at its core. We want to show that fashion and ethics together can produce trendy, affordable & unique collections that are must-haves.“ says Ayesha Mustafa, Founder and Director of Fashion ComPassion. And heres my opinion: I am very happy to be selected in this collaboration as I was previously inspired by their story and the care they show for the environment. I was also familiar with the continuing successful events they run. I wanted to share my insight and raise awareness about many serious environmental challenges as global warming we all are facing. I particularly love the ABO London scarf’s as they remind me of my organic landscapes. The way the scarf elegantly takes shapes around the neck is the way my landscapes of paint take shapes on different platforms. I love the connection between art and fashion as both are strong elements of style and expression, which are empowering elegance and sophistication. I love the ABO London`s luxury silk scarves and the fact that they are using high quality eco-friendly fabrics as I am a supporter of protecting the environment. For creative and visionary people:
Hello all.
I am writing to you and at the same time I am looking through my schedule. I think I will be spending all day in my studio space painting. I have decided that my blog is going to become a journal in which I will be sharing not only news about my practice but also my thoughts about what is going on right now in my head. What do you think? My vision is to create a legacy that is going to last forever. Every single challenge that I take on, both in my life and in my work, is for only one purpose. That is to inspire people around me to do the same. My life put me in tough situations in which I had to come out stronger than ever: from being a young person without childhood dealing with poverty, to being an adult without a home dealing with misery and death. I use my paintings not only to create a safe place for myself but to make an impact on the world and change people’s lives. I have realised that the paintings I create make people listen, and consequently I believe that will give me the power one day to really make the changes that I want. I know that is how I am going to change the world. I will tell you a story that will give you a sense about all of this. Four years ago my grandparents lost their only two sons in the same year, one being my father. Imagine what a mother must feel when losing everything that she was living for, the shock she was going through. One day she told me. “Last night I prayed to God to save my sons souls and take them by His side in Heaven and then I saw a picture of your work and I understood that God has given you a gift Laura. Bless all of us by allowing us to see how Heaven looks through your paintings”. Since then her pain became bearable knowing that they are in this wonderful place waiting to see their loved ones again. Now it makes so much sense. Before I never knew where all those ideas and creativity come from. When I paint I am going into an unconscious transformation to another world. I have a natural gift to painting and I believe this is for a bigger purpose. I just want to find those one or two visionary people who share the essence of farsightedness and who will support me throughout this incredible journey. True visionaries often see possibilities where others see difficulty. So if you know you are that person or you know the person I am talking about please let me know. I know I might look insignificant in comparison with other, more established artists but is not about who I am now . It is about who I can become tomorrow and about the greatness I can achieve. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It`s not." Dr.Seuss Tomorrow evening, Saturday the 18th of May 2013, you are inivtied to my one day exhibition at the 13 The Gallery. There you will have the opportunity to see some of my old works on paper. Check it out, it will be amazing to see another side of my creativity :D
